Hi dear community,

I'm pretty new here and also new to rigging. Please pardon my lack of knowledge.

I want improve on my rigging, as to have better video/ picture editing and slight gaming like Dota 2.

Please throw in your suggestions and advise on which components should I upgrade with minimum budget possible.

I'm planning to rig a dual monitor soon, at 1080p because my current monitor is 1080p, unless you can advise me to look forward to 1440p.

I'm fine with my processor, storage, case, and windows 7.  :)

Below is my rig system. Thank you.

You should either use a Xeon E3 1231V3 + that B85 or go for 4770K + Z97 mobo with 16 GB RAM for video/picture editing

My current rig for entertainment/gaming: i5 4570 3,2GHz; MSI B85M-E45; ZOTAC GTX760 AMP!; 8GB (2x4GB) by Kingston; Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm; Corsair 200R, Corsair VS650; Dell U2312HM, Samsung DVD R/W optical drive; CM Devastator; Corsair MM400 gaming pad

I'm applaud by the fast and helpful community!

Scratchy1215 isn't my graphic card model super old and it only has 1gb ram which is not enough for my video rendering?

Kopacetic Cool thanks, I'm planning to upgrade my ram!

KPZ211997 Noted bro! However, is my mobo good enough? Should I change a new one and add another graphic cards in?

Hm well if ur going for 1440p and ur building a big system i can bet money dota wont be the only game u play for long.

Personally i only have experience with Radeon R9 cards but whats ur budget? i love my 280 it plays every game great has great vram and easy to OC. If u can spend more then 240 on the GPU 280x or 290x is even better. i recommend them over Nividia due to price performance just because GPU's can be very prices compared to CPUs

Also since if u decide to game the 4790k just came out and is awesome for gaming, can OC to 5ghz if u have a good cooler and has all the goodies i7 comes with (hyperthreading ect) that ik are good for video editing and rendering.

Upgrading to 16GB of memory with better timings will improve editing performance. Look for 2x8GB DDR3-1600 CAS <= 9 or DDR3-1866 CAS <= 10.

If the video/photo editing software you use has gpu acceleration, an upgrade may offer a significant performance improvement when editing and rendering.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Actually, I'm not going for much gaming now. Was playing Battlefield 4 back then, but now just Dota 2.

Yeah I heard the R9 280 is very well worth and affordable. More concern about editing in dual display, so I guess will consider changing the graphic cards soon.

Yeah bro, I just went down and upgrade to 16gb of memory, just more concerned about the GPU side now. I was told that the motherboard is fine, need not change that.

Thanks everyone for the insights as well!!!

Yep just up the ram to 16GB and see how you go on. You can then look at the gpu if it is still struggling. The cpu that you currently have (i7 4770) is fine, so no need to change it. It has a turbo mode that will take it up to 3.9 GHz should the pc need it. Yes you can overclock to much higher on a 'k' cpu, but it will cost you a lot more money to go down that route, as you would need a new board, cpu and cooler.

Cool thanks a lot for the tips, anyway on a side note, is iMac worth it? Or should I use the money to rig a computer running on windows? I'm fine with both OS though.

It depends on whether or not you need the extra power. Are you not satisfied with your current render times?

iMac's are not ideal if what you're shooting for is performance.

The only CPU that will be much faster than the 4770 you already have, will be switching to a 2011 based system and a 4930K (which is $550+). So I would stick with that.

Jump to 16GB ram, upgrade the GPU to one your editing software can use. Programs can use GPUs to aid in faster editing and rendering etc. So upgrading to a 770 may be a good upgrade for you  (and will game decently at 1440P).
