Okay, GPU boost is starting to get on my nerves. I've tried everything to get my overclock to be where I want, but nothing works. I've done BIOS mods to set my power target to 200%, set my voltage to 1.21 volts, etc. Nothing is working. If I play a demanding game or run the heaven benchmark, my GPU refuses to go above 1280mHz. If I run something less demanding, the GPU will clock all the way up to 1404mHz, which is completely stable.

What I'm trying to do is make my GTX 670 stay at the maximum clock. I want to be the one controlling my GPU, not GPU boost.

GPU: MSI GTX 670 PE @ 1411/7387

you will probably not run a gpu core at 1.4GHz for very long, If it was THAT easy then a lot more people would,specially with watercooling. Be happy with 1.2GHz ( Its what i have on my 680 ) or your gpu will not live a happy and long life.

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!  :ph34r:

I didn't think core speed had an effect on lifespan. I thought it was voltage and temperatures..

Been working fine for a month so far. Temps stay below 70C.

Keep the GPU Core clock at stock with the memory clock increased. Have the minimum GPU voltage increased slightly with the power target at 150% or so. Let me know how it turns out, the GTX 680 is a worse overclocker than the 670 in general so hopefully you have more success than me.

Oh surprise, you are bashing nvidia, never saw that coming

Nope just stating the facts. If nvidia says to run within a parameter they set it is for a real good reason. Just my opinion and I agree with nvidia on this topic. nvidia is bashing itself.

What you posted has nothing to do with ANYTHING. Why do you insist on derailing threads with pointless information?

Guys no AMD/Nvidia wars please. I'm trying to get this sorted out.. :P

Your GPU is throttling itself regardless of your settings. The reason why your clockspeed goes to 1400 is because you are not hitting your TDP limit. No amount of power limit tuning will help that.

So in other words, you're saying the card has a hardware TDP limit?

Just reach the highest overclock you can without actually risking that much the life of your GPU. Every GPU has different overclocking potential, so maybe yours isn't that good. Overclocking is good for getting a little more performance out of your card but it's not worth it if your risking your GPU like that.

It overclocks well, just decides that it doesn't want to overclock to the max all the time. Which is irritating me xD

Here's what I mean. Both of these screenshots are 5 seconds apart.

Mmmm... interesting. My first bet would be that you have an unstable overclock. Try lowering it a little.

When you say the max, what do you mean? I hope your not just turning everything in msi afterburner up? : ) all cards will be different, depends on your individual card. If you ask me, if your getting an extra 6fps youll struggle to get much more out of it

Not unstable.. Haha it's been at those settings for more than a week. Been playing crysis 3, metro last light, and bioshock infinite.

As an owner of a 680, which I used to be running at 1411mHz GPU core, I would like to warn you against running that high. The performance increase was not worth it past 1200mHZ, and I had to push my voltage to past 1.15, which isn't something I feel good with. I would stay around 1.0V, or below, if you can, and just run at 1100mHz, give-or-take. The increase in performance is not worth the stress on your 670; you don't have to push a 670 that far in the first place - it's already a very powerful card.

There is one thing you could try. I would just start out with sayning that I am not to be held responsible for any damage this might do to your card.

You could try adding the following text to your MSI Afterburne profile.

[settings]

VDDC_Generic_Detection = 0
VDDC_CHL8318_Detection = 46h
VDDC_CHL8318_Type = 1
CaptureDefaults=0
[i2C_BUS_04_DEV_46]
Offset00=67 00 00 5F FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
Offset10=50 E8 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 5F FF FF FF FF FF
Offset20=00 00 35 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
Offset30=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
Offset40=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
Offset50=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
Offset60=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
Offset70=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 0A 28 55 FF FF FF 80 D6
Offset80=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 04 08 E8 6D 13 1B 1C 08
Offset90=65 FF FF FF FF FF 2E 18 F8 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
OffsetA0=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
OffsetB0=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
OffsetC0=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
OffsetD0=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
OffsetE0=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
OffsetF0=FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF

[Defaults]
Format=2
CoreVoltageBoost=130
PowerLimit=500
CoreClkBoost=0
MemClkBoost=0
FanMode=1
FanSpeed=36

This should give you 0.100 mV more power to the GPU. I was able to take my 680 to 1528mHz with it, but just to stress the point: I will not be held responsible for any damage this might do to your card.
