Radeon 7950 vs 7970

I am able to get a reference hd 7970 for around $320 or a hd 7950 for around $290 (non reference, Ex: XFX Core edition)

 

Which would be the better option for triple monitor gaming (5760x1080), for noise, performance, temperature, etc?

The XFX cooling is really not that great, and for that reason I'd recommend the reference 7970.

What if i spent a bit more to get a better cooled 7950? Or is the 7970 still the better choice?

Yes, the 7970 will be better for your usage scenario. You can also go on Linus' channel and search benchmark showdown, and you will be able to see the difference in performance between the 7970 and 7950 in a variety of games.

If you're on a limited budget, get the 7950 and overclock it. If $30 isn't that much for you and you want some more performance then get the 7970.

7950 msi twin frozer oc boost edition it is great and works like a boss
i hav an oc of 1150 mhz

7950 Boost could be an option, overclocked they can match the 7970 :)

That's a great price on a 7970 but I'd personally stay away from reference.  They have horribly hot and loud coolers on them.  Try to find a good price on a non-reference cooler 7970 like a Twin Frozr or Dual-X from Sapphire...

I agree with mega in that you should try to stay away from reference coolers as they - well they suck. If you can't find a good deal on a non reference 7970, you can overclock a 7950 to meet/pass the performance of a 7970.
