Hello guys, i need some quick help.

I've made a topic here some months ago asking for help with some new parts because I'm going to travel to Japan for the next month, which gives me a really good opportunity to buy some pieces to give my computer an upgrade. Everything was fine and dandy and I knew exactly which parts I was going to get, BUT I've just found out I've had a substantial budget increase, and have decided it's best to upgrade more things. Problem is my flight leaves in a few hours so I don't have much time to do research.

Thing is, I had a budget of 500 dollars, and I was going to use it on a new motherboard, ssd and GPU, but now I've got around 1500 dollars and I think I could maybe change all of that plus the CPU and RAM and stuff.

So, I have an AMD CPU (FX-8120), and since I HAVE to change my motherboard, I was kinda sad I didn't have money for a CPU upgrade cause I work with 3d and Intel does that a lot better.. I was thinking on a 4770k or 4930k (which would be much better but the extra money hurts a lot). For GPU I was going with a R9 280x, but maybe now I could throw a 290 in. I was going with a 120 gb SSD but maybe now I'd upgrade to 250gb.

And now comes the hard part, I know nothing about motherboards. Before I was going with a gigabyte 990fxa-ud3, but since this whole thing came up I only had time to check out one motherboard and it wasn't even the right socket (I saw a LGA2011 against the 1050). This is where I'll need more help.

You guys can throw here any different ideas that you think will work (bare in mind I work with 3d and am a huge gamer, also I prefer AMD over Nvidia) and when I arrive to Japan I'll try to connect and talk to you guys again, I wish I had more time though.

Anyways thanks in advance.

EDIT: Since I mentioned I'm going to japan, if you are interested I've been checking some prices on amazon japan, basically 100 yen = 1 dollar, so it's kinda easy to convert values.

Here is the link to shop "in english"

If i was you i would get either the r9 290 or a 770, also just get the 4770k since the increase in performance between that and the 4930k isnt really worth it. As for the ssd, the more space the better so i would get the 250gb or if you can do a 512gb. For the mobo the asus sabertooth is always a good choice (but ugly). Here is a link for the mobo everything else you should be able to find your self:

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

What kind of 3D work are you doing? At what scale? Programs being used?

Is a copy of Windows or any peripherals needed?

Where are you shopping?

@WoodenMarker

3D modelling and rendering, I'm a student so it's nothing absurd but my current computer isn't handling it too well already. I mostly use Cinema 4D but I also work with Rhinoceros, 3Dsmax... I also work with Unity for game development sometimes.

I already have windows 7 (original) and don't plan on upgrading to Windows 8 and don't need peripherals

Aaand I have NO idea where I'm shopping yet

thanks :)

It's a bit difficult to give specific recommendations if we don't know which shops you're using. Pricing and availability varies depending on where you're shopping.

What are your current specs? How is your system not handling it well?

Yeah, I know, but it's kinda hard because I've never been there and don't know any famous shops or anything like that - especially near where I'll be staying (It's a small town). I'm basically checking out prices at amazon.jp as I said in the edit in my first comment and using that as reference, because even if I don't find any good shop there I can order on amazon since I'll stay for some time.

About my computer, when my models get to a certain count of polygons it sometimes gets really slow processing what I'm doing, and it gets really difficult to continue modelling without having to hide some models

The slow processing is likely to do with your gpu which is what renders what you see in the viewport. What are you current specs?

It's probably your gpu--especially with the higher resolution. Throwing in a 290 and ssd could fix your issue.

@WoodenMarker Well, that is useful, i didnt know of that, but the extra performance of a 4790k may come in handy especially because I can buy it for half the price of what id pay on my country..

But I think Ill focus on the videocard then.. Anyways ill try to find a computer store around here and I update with some prices

Yay let me revive this.

So, I've been here a few days already, roamed around the city a bit and there's no computer store nearby, only eletronic stores in general, but no place to buy parts. (One of the stores was selling a dell XPS with a fullhd monitor, a i7 4790 and some nvidia card I couldnt read for $350.. kinda cheap I guess)

But anyways since theres a tornado thing coming and things will get pretty rough, I guess my best option is to buy it from amazon, I've done a quick research of some parts on both us and jp amazon and newegg and here is what I found.. I even put the corsair vengeance down there but I think I wont buy it.

So, two observations, before I post the chart. All the videocards I saw are Msi TwinFrozers, cause I read good things about them and I even have a Msi which didnt give me any problem at all. All the prices listed are not considering sales, I've noted the full price of the products only.

I've also searched the Maximus VII Ranger and it's for $221, $291 and $- on Amazon JP, US and Newegg, respectively. The other motherboards I've seen all had a little flaw here or there, but if you guys know of any other please tell me.

But anyways, the prices for the SSD's here are seem to be really good, I'll try and get the 500 if I can. About the other products, I'm less certain, because of the difference in price, and although the combo 4790(considering the motherboard)+R9 290+ 840 evo 500gb fit in my budget i'm still wondering a bit..

So, what do you guys think? Should I be less worried and buy it at this price or should I wait and see if I can find some stores around here after the storm (which may not leave time to buy from amazon if they are too expensive)?
