I think this might be verging on piracy, so I'm not sure this should be discussed in great detail here (edit: at least not acquisitions)... But what some do is that they get an emulator and play ROMs on it. I just boot up my NES :P

Legally you must own the actual game as well I believe.

you will need to download the emulator (depends what platform you're going to play on)

then download the rom (the game) to play

 

I advise you to only download the games that you have previously owned because it's considered piracy if you download games that you don't have

In some countries it is considered piracy whether you own the game or not, as long as you download. If you use torrents, be ware of uploading, because that's very bad
