Should I Step Up?

Go to solution Solved by ForsakenLive,

Definitively not.

Look at this 4k benchmarks using a GTX Titan (Same GPU, but with 6gb of GDDR5). This happens when  you have a small memory bus on the GPU, no more than 3.2GB will get used. A 128 bit bus per gig of ram is sort of the general rule (there are exceptions like the 770 4gb that can go over 2gb of memory used, but it's not that much), the GTX 780 has a 384 bit bus.

Hi guys,

The week after I purchased my 3GB EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX, they released a 6GB version of the card, it has been playing on my mind for a while now, should I make use of the "Step Up" programme that EVGA offers? I play/record/edit a lot of gameplay footage and am currently using a dual 1080p configuration. It would cost me around £100 to step up to the 6GB non SC version of the 780 ACX. Do you think it would be more beneficial to go for this, or to save up for another of the card I currently have for sli?

Thanks for the replies guys, £100 is very steep... on a £380 card for 3GB of VRAM and no factory overclock... I suppose my idea of "future proofing stuff" is a bit stupid, by the time I get an Nvidia Surround or 4K set up It will be a generation or two of cards, So I will be in need of a GPU upgrade anyway.
