2011-3 is not backward compatible with 2011 processors .. It'll work only with Haswell-e Processor .. 

 

The only reason to keep the 2011 pins (and the confusing name) is to keep the backward compatibility with 2011 supported Coolers .. It'll save the people who go for 2011-3 from replacing their already-good coolers ..
