My parents changed ISP's and I had to redo their connections. Went with the approved modem (TPLink) and that's working painlessly. The recommended router (Dlink) was a pain in the ass and I replaced it with an ASUS and it works fantastic.

My Dad decided to replace the phones earlier in the week and they have been a huge pain. Can't receive, weird noises, very inconsistent. In talking to techsupport they mentioned to my Dad that there might be crosstalk between the router and the wireless phones. How can I check this? Is there some switch where I can get them to stop stepping on one another? It's clear that the router is way more robust than the phones. Both support 2.4 and 5 g.

Aggravation. Welcome to the high tech world.

Wireless phones work on the 2.4ghz frequency, routers do too on 2.4ghz and that's why they tend to mix between each other causing all kinds of issues, that's why you see routers that can handle 5.0ghz and more. however they still have the 2.4ghz capabilities, which you can disable, to run only on 5.0ghz mode. However, there are devices like phones and notebooks, that might not work on this frequency, and will require to use the older 2.4ghz wireless standard.
