Which RAM is better? CL and MHz Ratio

Go to solution Solved by joppetie,

2400 MHz. CL11 is faster, I think.

2400 is a lot more than 1866, but 11 isn't much more than 10.

Hi,

Bought most components of my new pc build - what is left is the RAM and networking adapter. I have an i7 4770k and an Asus Maximus VII Ranger Motherboard.

Which one is the best out of these two? I have little understanding of speed : CL ratio. Basically, which one would offer the best performance because they are similarly priced!

Here are the options;

2400MHz CL11 (Kingston HyperX Beast)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-2400-Beast-Desktop-Memory/dp/B00A771ZWI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404043406&sr=8-1&keywords=kingston+hyperx+beast+8gb+2400mhz

1866MHz CL10 (Kingston HyperX Fury)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-Series-1866MHz-Memory-Module/dp/B00J8E91T0/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1404043466&sr=8-8&keywords=hyperx+fury+8gb

 Would it be wise to go for the 1866MHz CL10 option and overclock to 2400MHz CL11? As I'm leaning towards its nice look which would look great with my build. One of the employees at SCAN recommended me to get RAM in the 2000+ MHz range due to my choice of motherboard.

And is it possible to "underclock" ram to get lower latency?

How bout you just find a good midpoint RAM like CL9 2133Mhz or CL9 1866Mhz.
