Plex Pass == Plex Premium

If you have plex premium, you get the iOS/Android apps for free, as well as early client/server builds a couple weeks before everyone else.

I have plex premium. I have a script on my server called PlexWatch that will send a push notification to my phone with the IP/title of whatever it is that's being watched. Useful if you share your library ;)

So if I get plex pass first, then I also get premium automatically?

They're the same exact thing, so yep

I believe when the service first came out it was called Plex Premium...and then they changed it somewhere down the line to Plex Pass. Not sure, but they are one in the same.

I'm not sure how it would work buying it from the app store

I purchased my subscription to plexpass for 3.99/mo on their website, though I should probably go switch it to yearly or lifetime. I did monthly just to test the water. I enjoy the added features...even if they aren't actually "worth" the subscription I think I owe it to the devs for all that plex has given.

I had to login to my plex account before finishing the transaction, now on any device I use, simply signing into my plex account will activate the premium features. Including those on the server.

EDIT: Just upgraded from monthly to yearly. If this time next year I'm still using plex, I'll switch to lifetime and still save a couple bucks :P

But what I am asking is, do you get plex premium free if you get plex pass app for mobile device?

@Xtreme Gamer - https://plex.tv/features

you only get the Roku and Android app for free, iOS, and I'm assuming windows 8 app is not free. Is that what you're referring to when you mean Plex Premium???

Plex Media Center for windows is free, why not just install the windows applcation instead of purchasing the w8 app from the windows store?

unless you have a tablet device I guess, either way...it's worth every penny. I had paid for the iOS app before I signed up for PlexPass. I assumed I would have gotten the app for free had I signed up prior...I was wrong.

What i mean is that when you get the mobile app for phones and tablets, does that mean that you then get plex premium (the subscription service) free?

no

The app/s are 5$, and that just lets you use plex on a mobile device. If you do pay for Plex Pass, then you get the android and Roku app for free, and that is it as far as "free" goes.

So getting the app first, would i be able to watch videos outside the wifi network on mobile device?

As far as I understand, the streaming from your Plex server to your mobile device (including automatic transcription) is a free feature anywhere in the world (because it is using all your own equipment) but if you want to upload your files using Plex Cloud Sync then you need Plex Pass.

For today only Plex Android app is free on the Amazon App store, if you are using an android device I would grab it and you can try it out, but I'm pretty sure it will work.

Not sure if it works for the Android app, but when trying to stream from my media server to the Roku, I was offered a 30-day free trial.

You need Plex Pass for all of the different apps: Roku, Android, iOS, etc. The only thing that I was able to do for free was through Chromecast, because that simply streams from my computer browser to the TV.

The lifetime subscription is excellent value, and it's only around for a limited time.

e: It seems actually buying the individual apps works too, without Plex Pass. Plex Pass gives more features though, that you don't get from simply buying the app.

yes

Keep in mind that video quality is dependent upon your CPU, home upload speed, and mobile internet speed.
