wow, thank you for your time and energy, i really do appreciate it.

i do not currently have a case of fans in my possession or purchased just what i know i want. i got a few question, keep in mind i know nothing so my questions are not to challenge you but to get a better understanding.

1) what made you go with that mobo? is there something specific you like about it?

2) would i need (or could i) get more ram so that it is upto 32 DDR3-1600? or would that even be worth it?

3) the dual sli 780, will two of them make a huge difference in the video quality? ive read and seen videos by linus himself that warns against dual cards. again, i do not know... i just ask to know.

sorry about the english, it is 3:30 am here... i am a bit tired lol. well, its either the fact that i am tired or educated in the US. i believe either excuse will work ;)

no worries bro

its good you ask the good questions

1) The mobo was based on experience with MSI, I been using them and they prove to be solid boards. My current Core 2 Duo system with the MSI board is still running after so many years

The Gaming 7 series has features which may be useful to you SLi/CrossFire support. Creative Onboard Audio and a host of BIOS features for easy OCing. And much cheaper than the Asus ROG line of mobos.

2) 8GB is generally what I will suggest, 16GB is more than enough for system like these

32GB is very expensive and not needed unless you do serious professional video editing work.

3) I selected dual GTX780 because of the power from SLi them, they will outperform the 780Ti and Titan Black in terms of raw fps performance and they will be ready for 1440P gaming but it depend on the games.

If the new games like WatchDogs don't support SLi. You can down grade to single GPU and still get good frame rate. If you think its a bit overkill for your 2 monitors. I can swap to single 780Ti.

oh didn't noticed you have yet to buy the casing and cooling

ok time to rework the build

the red/black theme all out the system and swapped the casing to the H440 which has a clean look

780Ti and 1440P IPS monitor go hand in hand and the Asus PB278Q is one great IPS monitor

many LTT users swear by it because of the colors

I have included two IPS monitors and Windows 7 Pro. Windows 7 Pro because it will allow you to upgrade the memory should you ever wish to do so. I would suggest though that you give serious thought to going with Windows 8.1.

The motherboard choice is based in part on color scheme. ASRock is making good quality enthusiast motherboards these days, so I have no hesitancy using their boards.

You had specified an X40 cpu cooler. I include instead the X41 which is a newer version. One nice feature of the X41 is the LED lighting on the pump face.

The psu is more than adequate for the build and will most likely be sufficient should you decide to upgrade to a newer gpu down the road. It is not large enough to add a second GTX 780. But I generally recommend going with a single powerful gpu over multiple cards.

sorry, i was researching the case on that last build. the size scares me a little. i am not experienced so i fear size of components fitting well. such as the water cooling for the cpu being pushed in so close to the mobo with that little room. dont get me wrong, i love the smaller cases... they just throw me a bit. i dont want to have to purchase multi components. this was the model i was looking at: (though in black)

i like the idea that it is pretty idiot proof (that will help later on if i want to expand and i cant find someone as nice and knowledgeable as you).

I actually really like the single card. i was talking to a friend earlier about the lack of SLI compatible games. i hate the idea of paying more or top dollar just to turn around and have restrictions on what i could play. i am assuming between that card and mobo i can do some nice overclocking and later on down the line and/or throw in another gtx780ti correct? and will there be room in that case if i decide to sli it later?

i have a 24 inch asus monitor here so i might just stick with that. (getting cheap lol)

i also got a couple 1tb drives i can use. (more of me getting cheap)

would adding another 16 gb of ddr3 just dble that cost? if so i think i would want to go that way. what do you think?

you are my hero btw.

  • It will have a longer support life from Microsoft
  • Under the hood it is better than 7
  • New devices will have drivers for it, as time goes by 7 will not be as well supported
  • New games (actually all software) will be written for 8 and in the not too distant future may have issues with 7
  • 8.1 over 8 because it is the latest and saves several hours of upgrade downloads

i really like the color coordination... the video card in your build is alot cheaper and almost no difference. will there be a hit in performance between the gigabyte geforce gtx 780 and the MSI GTX 780Ti?

There is a difference in performance between the GTX 780 and GTX 780 Ti. http://www.nvidia.in/content/product-detail-pages/geforce-gtx-780-ti/gtx-780-ti-performance-chart.jpg and http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1036?vs=1072 will give you a rough estimation of that difference. You will have to decide if the roughly $150 difference is worth the added performance.

With respect to added performance, if the 780 will deliver 60 fps at desired settings in a game you play and the 780 Ti will deliver 75 fps, the gaming experience will be roughly the same. It is only when you start getting into low rates, (under 30 - 35 fps), where the gaming experience will suffer.

does the radiator have pre applied

thermal paste? will i need to purchase any thermal paste or anything like that? also i noticed that you put a 140mm water cooler.. the rear fan (i thought ideal to install the cooler) is a 120mm

ah I understand

I got big hand too and I do hate that my hands keep hitting parts or my hand getting scratched/cut by the sharp point when working inside

generally single GPU is the easiest to handle in term of troubleshooting

SLi/CrossFire is a real headache when it do not work and more costly,

but with stable games like Crysis and Metro, they work like a charm

it a trade off between going single or multi

ah that will be good idea, save you more money for better parts later

at this point of time not many applications need 32GB of RAM other than 3D Rendering Programs, I have worked with special effect industry before and the programs they use for special effects eats up to 24GB when just opening one frame. Yikes!!!

the cost of going for 32GB is really not worth when it does not add performance

the price of 32GB kits starts from 280 dollars all the way up to 400 dollars, that huge price difference could mean a lesser powerful GPU or a fancy mech keyboard and many more parts which you do need the most.

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

does the radiator have pre applied

thermal paste? will i need to purchase any thermal paste or anything like that? also i noticed that you put a 140mm water cooler.. the rear fan (i thought ideal to install the cooler) is a 120mm

To mount the X41 on the rear exhaust of the Phantom use a fan adapter, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811995077. The alternative would be to use a 120 mm part instead. Like a Corsair H80i.

Frankly, with all the fans being installed you might want to consider using an air cooler like the Noctua NH-U12S.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
