Hi all, it appears in all games I play my GPU usage will randomly drop to 0% along with my core clock dropping from 1100mhz to 500mhz causing the game to drop to around 30 FPS freeze for a split second and go right back to 1100mhz and normal GPU usage. I've tried the 14.6 and 14.4 drivers from AMD and the issue happens on both. Any tips on how to fix this are much appreciated.

BF4

Sniper Elite V2

NFS Hot Pursuit

GTA IV

But It doesn't appear to happen in Sleeping Dogs and I do not have that Raptr App

do you have another PC to test the GPU with the above mentioned games?

to is to confirm if the GPU is at fault

it the GPU works fine on the other PC

it could be something else in your current PC

I don't have the money to get another and most of my friends have consoles and the only few that do have PCs don't have the specs required

i think any AMD GPU will do

we just need a spare GPU to rule out your 'faulty' GPU

Without physically have the PC to test i would then say it is the PSU. 620watts is way lower than is suggested with the 280x from Sapphire, they recommend a 720watt PSU. I would also recommend a GPU RMA because you don't know it the GPU is has been damaged .

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

Maybe if it wasn't quality PSU then sure but this card under a constant 100% load draws about 258w.

After looking online this appears to be a common issue with these cards randomly throttling due to BIOS and VRM overheating but my card never goes above 55-60c so idk..

Are you crazy?

It is a common knowledge that gpu manufacturers say waaay overkill wattage for simply covering their ass.620w is more than enough, period.

OP if you tried unistalling drivers and re-installed them and you are sure that it's not overheating(55C seems too low for me) try to RMA the card.I can't find any other reason. Your build is solid.

I've tried many drivers and I took some screenshots of MSI Afterburner showing the issue

Didnt get a pic of the core clock but it will go from 1100 to 500 or 1100 to 300 also core 1 usage is a straight line so I guess that is good?

And the issue is back , I've noticed in GPU-Z when my FPS drops and the game freezes the voltage on the card drops drastically then back up! It requires two 8-pins and I'm using a 6 to 8 pin adapter and a dual molex to 8 pin adapter so could this be causing it? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096&cm_re=seasonic_620w-_-17-151-096-_-Product

And I bought a new PSU, dont worry I bought it at Microcenter for $119.99 and had a $50 Gift Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438018&cm_re=evga_850-_-17-438-018-_-Product and the issue still happens but the voltage doesn't drop like it did so either the card is messed up or every game I like has a broken engine
