Hi guys,

So it's been 4 years that I've won this Asus G53s and it has served me proudly. I've recently (past 3-4 months) been experiencing frame drops on pretty much every game I play. These drops happen in a weird manner, let me explain.

Usually at the launch of the game, it runs smoothly for 10-30 mins depending on the game being played, and then frame drops occur at what seems to be random moments (no big explosions, nothing particular happening). My guess is overheat because usually after one of these drops I hear the fans start running faster (they basically seem to have been turned up a notch).

I've read through several similar posts on different forums, most of them talked about throttle, and a software called "throttlestop" which solved this problem. Usually these threads were really old, and I couldn't get more information on this problem, and I don't want to start doing stuff if it's not what is needed for my computer.

Every 5-6 months I give the laptop a good inside clean, the last time (yesterday) I noticed what seemed to be thermal paste leaking onto the motherboard. I have a rough knowledge of hardware, so don't take this for granted, I can send pics if needed.

I basically need help to get rid of these drops, please if you know a solution may I ask you to explain to me fully what I'm doing to my computer.

If I need to monitor anything to give you more information, I'll be more than happy to do it, just tell me what to use to do it.

SPECS: Model : Asus G53SW c
CPU : Intel i7-2630Qm 2.0 GHz

GPU : Nvidia Geforce GTX 460M

OS : Win 7 64 bits

RAM : 8 GB

I hope you'll be able to help me.  : )

Just use alcohol on toliet paper or q tips. Sounds like there is too much thermal paste and that is your issue with heating. You need to remove all the old thermal paste and reapply new, don't apply as much as before if you've done it before. There are many methods to installing paste and people will have a fit over what you use, but I followed a method from a 25 year experience vet of computers. I apply a thin layer across the cpu. I never have had overheating or any spread past the cpu. You want just enough to put a thin layer on the cpu and not a drop more.

There is no right or wrong way to apply just a wrong amount to apply. Some use the line method, some the pea method, some spread. It's just what you want to do. When the right amount is applied you will see virtually no difference in temps regardless of the method.

Download the pp called core temp or cpuid hwmonitor and check for the temp.If its overheating it is the main issue.if the heat is fine.

update to the latest drivers and optimise the settings to performance it will increase fps in games

Hope this helps

Just ran some "tests", I hit 93°C on my GPU and around 82°C on CPU. I checked it out for my specs, it seems to be overheating, can someone confirm that it's the case for these numbers ?

So I should repaste the GPU and CPU from what you're saying. Thanks for the MX-4 suggestion, I'll look into all the options I have. Anyone have something else to recommend ?

I'll post some pics of the "leaks" in a few hours.
