Steam games migration

Go to solution Solved by Askew,

Copy your 'my games' folder in my documents, as some save files will be there (look around for other game folder in my documents) and also copy the steam folder.

When you got the new OS up, merge the 'my games' with the old one, and drop the steam folder somewhere, then just delete the clientregistry.blob file in the steam directory, then run steam and it should work.

Hi!

I'm (finally) going to upgrade my computer from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. I only have one problem, my steam games. I don't have a ton but they are big and would take a long time to download. Could I just copy the games folder to a HDD and copy it back when Windows finishes? And would I loose game progress?

Thanks in advance!

yes you can and game saves are generally stored in the documents folder or on the hidden appdata folder (like minecraft) it depends on the game so check both and back them to

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')
