My old PSU died and took the mobo with it. Therefore I believe that it is a great time upgrade. Here is what I have come up with so far:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WC7FK8

I am hoping that the rest of the components will have survived the PSU death so I did not put down a HDD or new ram etc...

Also I am planning on gaming on a 900p monitor and not upgrading anytime soon. Do you believe that the graphics card will last a couple of years (3-4) at that resolution?

I would like to keep this upgrade within $700. Thanks for reading and your soon to be feedback (please)!

You do not need 750w for a 760, or any single GPU solution other than some dual GPU cards.

I recommend a nice 600w PSU the Hive 650 or CX600M which are cheap but still are great PSUs.

You can also switch out that 760 for a 280, which will give you better performance.

Then switch that mobo out for a better one.

Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB TWIN FROZR Video Card  ($199.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $648.94

Not including rebates, that costs $703.94.

Thnx, but i sort of have this intel bias whenever gaming is involved... Besides I would like to do some overclocking and as far as i know, AMD runs much hotter than intel.

The FX-8320 does run hotter, but at your budget it is not such a bad choice. You can get a better gpu this way.

You are right and they use much more wattage it depends if you want to game more than video editing or picture editing or vice-versa

AMD chips are usually better at overclocking. I chose the AMD chip so you could get a more powerful GPU

To the reviews!

from a couple of reviews it has about the same performance as an old i3. i am coming from an old i3, i would prefer to go up the ladder not sideways. are there any better amd chips that could truly compete with the 4690k in raw gaming performance?

is this a decent ssd to get?

The Samsung is faster.

i care a little bit more about storage capacity then speed. but if this one is just down right horrible then yeah, i guess the 840 evo would be a good deal better

What reviews are you looking at, the 8320 is even good for my 290
