It would be relatively similar on both operating systems, maybe only having differences of about a minute or two depending on the length of the video you are rendering and codec choices, etc.

i was wondering due to things such as the imacs render quickly for the spec which are in them so i thought if you could use higher end hardware it may do content creation better

Possibly, but as I said if you commit to making a new PC for content creation then you can get whatever OS you want on that PC. bear in mind what Editing software you are using as well, like some codecs won't work on Mac, and some devices such as some cameras, recording software, and external recording software such as the Avermedia Live gamer HD might not have available drivers for the Mac, make sure you look into these things before purchase though :)

It pretty much comes down to apps. Whether you like OSX's iMovie and similar 'Mac Only' or a Windows Only Apps for your content creation. If you are wanting to use something that is cross-platform like the Adobe Suite, then it preference.

I believe you have a lot more software options with windows where as with OSX  you might have to pay attention to what hardware you get as I have heard OSX is limited to certain chipsets etc.

really?

For video editing/rendering mainly.

From Alex tims, head of IT at animal logic.

Some of our applications would run on Mac but the large portion of the applications wouldn’t be designed to run them, so that instantly means we pushed in the direction of PCs.

This is not to say he won't find the software to do what he wants, just to keep in mind that there is quite a lot out there that won't run on OSX.
