Summertime PC Cooling Tips?

The other day i was playing minecraft and my GT 210 (Fanless version) hit a peak of 91 Degrees. I'm sure other parts of the PC were getting just as hot. I'm not really comfortable with this and there's not a way i know of to undervolt the card manually (although the card is good about undervolting itself during normal use) and the rest of the components are just as locked(damn near no control over them for temps). Are there any tips you guys and gals can give me to help cool my PC? Anything would help

EDIT: I have fans around my room running and the only fan i can mount in my case is exhaust....

had that gpu, if you have a spare 3/4pin fan header try and find an old 3/4pin fan and have it blowing at the heatsink, mine used to run around 70*c but i got it to 55 as far as i can remember.was this one

 

but yeah get a fan blowing at it, depending on your pc case/setup give it a clean out, make sure the rooms cool and got fresh air in (window open).

edit: have you tried unlocking your sempron yet? i regret selling mine (sempron 140) before trying it, unlocked and overclcoked (usually possible at stock volts, ask @tmcclelland455) they're not bad and thier value/performance shoots up, also gt210s and other low profile htpc cards tend to be great overclockers, you could even play world of tanks i bet (on low but still okay looking) at like 40fps (at 1360x768)

fyi my old rig (given by a friend) had 2x2gb of ddr2 800, a 9400gt and sempron 140 so pretty much the same rig, he played resident evil 5 on it.get world of tanks and hit me up if you do manage to unlock it.

It may sound exaggerated or even archaic, but it works wonderfully.

In regards to the Sempron thing, it is worth unlocking the other core (assuming it's not defective and it was locked purely to let AMD sell it as a lower-tier chip). When mine was unlocked and overclocked, it performed moderately well.

air doesnt cool pc's, just pushin' a ton of air at it with nowhere to go will just fill it with dust, make sure that you have a way of getting hot air out and cool air in.

looking at your case and general setup (google is awesome), if your thinking your sytem is REALLY hot, take the side panel off and lay it on its side, those passive heatsinks dont work very well in standard orientation because heat rises and cant get past the PCB laying the pc down allows hot air to escape.

if you have an old pc laying around or amd heatsink (i still classify your pc as "not old") steal an old amd heatsink fan, they're usually 70mm deltas

How would i go about doing so? There's no options or anything regarding ANY features other than boot device changing and shut off temps in my BIOS.

open up your side adn find what board you have and post it here, we'll wait B) ....

RS690M03 right? by foxconn, yep had a foxconn a74ml-k in mine...

unfortuneatly it seems to have a 690 chipset so doesnt have advanced clock calibration so you wont be able to unlock on it, also it wouldnt be worth buying a new board to do it, when you do get a new pc keep your current one or atleast your sempron jsut in case one day you come across a 700+ chipset which does have it, maybe your sempron will lead a future life somewhere in a htpc.

I had almost perfect "scaling," if you will, unlocking the other core.

 

And I think it will live. It survived close to 5GHz and 1.8v.

yeah so you're stuck as a single core it seems (maybe find a cheap upgrade like an athlon 215 off ebay and a 6670 on ebay) and youll be okay for light gaming for a little longer while you save for the rig you really want that im guessing you're already planning...

Yeah i'm trying to save for a better rig. I'm trying to sell an Xbox 360 and games(i never use it) for $250 and i'm probably going to get some birthday money, so my budget is kinda crap, but i'm only at 1366x768, so a budget rig will do the trick for a while.

read your sig, is the cpu dead? love those chips!, hope its some other part thats dead.

i wonder if they'd do 6ghz on ln2, phenom did....theoretically at 6ghz itll perform like an athlon x2 250 at stock

yeah i had to nag at you in SOOO many threads over like 3 months, ive just got the 9400gt back, missus is using the ddr2 (foxconn board is long gone) but still wish i had a sempy, if i find one on ebay for £5 im nabbing it!

1-if your cpu isnt overheating which i doubt it is....you're fine

2-your gt210 will get hot, nvidia knows this, they put a passive cooler but its such a small die that its so low power its not meant for gaming just video and blue ray...if heating does kill it in a years time are you going to care?

3-if your gt210 is hotter than you'd like then by all means get your box fan blowing inside your pc with the fan angled so it blows slightly to the rear of the pc.

4-id recommend getting a 40-80mm 3 pin fan off something and bodging it (everyones done atleast 1 bodge job right?).

5-get world of tanks and stay in tier 1 untill you get a better rig, you'll struggle on low but at tier 1....who cares have fun

depending on budget a 6300+m5a78l-m/usb3+r9-270 and 2x4gb of standard crucial ballistics/vengeance (not the fancy stuff) and your set for a looooong time.

as you can tell i started off poor and i still havent invested allot, just traded my way up through selling and buying parts with friends, i just bought ace combat 6 for my 360, fancied doing some retro gaming  also got GTA5 for £15.......yeah im now selling it, it looks SOOO bad, #worsethanwatchdogs

usb3, ability to have more ram, overclocking, better cpu performance, technically the same gpu but will be cooler and quieter and have newer features and dx support etc, double the memory bandwidth. for $10 more..

$180 cpu vs $113 cpu allows you to allocate money where it can benefit you more.

you could even throw your sempy in there and do a back-to-back comparison and see how things have moved on, where they havent and become a youtuber lol

You must have clicked the link in my sig rather than the one i put in the post, lulz. While i would love to have a budget like that, the $250-ish limit is all i can do for now. 740 is terrible performance for the money, you'd be better off with a ps4...

The way i see it, i'm not going to make my $30 back on an outdated, yet still $50 dollar MoBo, so i might as well use it for something. LGA 1155 is upgradeable enough if i ever wanted to put an i3 in the machine, but i imagine that i'll likely replace the entire thing when i get the money later on in life rather than doing this.

put a 3770 and second hand cheap gtx660 (only say nvidia because old ones go for peanuts as thier owners upgrade to the latest nvidia marketing) or amd if you want performance and it'll be lurrrvvvly
