I currently have a pair of skullcandy SLYR's and the plastic above the earcups is starting to break and it hasn't even been a full year since i bought them which is very disappointing.

I need a recommendation for a good headset that is under $80 CAD

I would like it to have a decent mic, and be good when it comes to listening to music- i found the skullcandy slyr's sounded really good but that's just my opinion

What I've been looking at so far:

- Corsair vengeance 1400 $69.99

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826816027&cm_re=corsair_vengeance_1400-_-26-816-027-_-Product

- Steel series Siberia v2  $74.99

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826249083&cm_re=steelseries_siberia_v2-_-26-249-083-_-Product

-  Razer Carcharias $69.99

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4FT1PA5897

If i remember correctly, I do remember linus doing a review of the carcharias headset a long time ago but i'm not 100% sure.

Feel free to recommend anything not on the list above and provide feedback if you've used any headsets mentioned here. Thanks in advance :)

EDIT: yep Linus did a first look back when he was with NCIXcom and you guys might wanna take a look because its got a funny intro :')

Kingston hyperX should be around $100 and they will blow all those headsets you listed out of the water.

Edit: Ah here it's $90

Thank you so much they look great and its made by a good brand so i'll definitely try to fit these into my budget. However it is a bit more expensive than i was willing to spend. What would you recommend just beneath this pair?

There really is nothing great under that. It really is worth the $10 more. It's basically like in graphics cards where the Kingston is like a Radeon HD7770 and anything under it is like a GT610 or something that is totally stupid price to performance wise. If you were in the US it would be a different story.

Edit: Actually Superlux might be a solution. Try to get these shipped to Canada or find them somewhere in Canada.

I own the cloud and can say they're absolutely phenomenal for the money. I honestly wouldn't bother with anything else within the price range. The build is amazing, sound is awesome (great soundstage too, so you really get the effect of hearing around you) and just unboxing them is fun.

If you have to spend less, the Bitfenix Flo looks pretty ok. Hardwarecanucks has a review of them.

Also, where did you buy your (shudders) skullcandy? Bestbuy will usually switch broken stuff out or give you a gift card with the value of the item if it's within warranty.

Ehhh I would stay away from the Bitfenix Flo. Putting aside my personal dislike of the company, I've heard it sounds absolutely trash. And I wouldn't go to hardwarecanucks for audio. They really don't know much about it.

Not directing to HWC for a sound quality analysis, more for a nice look at the product (their b-roll is amazing).

From what I see on the net it sounds decent for the money. I'd trust bitfenix more with my money than someone like razer (from personal experience).

I've never used it so I really can't say how it sounds.

My personal experience with bitfenix is actually the opposite. I'm staying away from them from now on.

I could replace my shudders under warranty but the build quality just isn't good at all, so im gonna get my money back and buy the cloud instead

HWC did a review on the hyperx cloud and the only con was the mic quality ):
