Improving YouTube video playback on 1366x768 resolution?

Go to solution Solved by Askew,

lol Thanks, always nice to see more of his fans.

I have just watched a random video from Dailymotion which uses HTML5 and it looked great at the 1080p setting.

So I'm guessing it's the Flash Player that's causing the problem?

Good news, HTML5 video is supported by YouTube, try that out.

I have a laptop with the resolution of 1366x768 as most laptops do.

Every time I'm on my college campus using their superior internet connection I would watch YouTube videos at high resolution quality, usually at 720p or 1080p. However whenever I watch at those resolution I notice a lot of stair case edges like the ones you see in low resolution games with no AA turned on.

This really annoys me because I'm just video streaming and not gaming and was wondering if there's anything to remedy my problem at this resolution, or is my display the component holding everything back and nothing can be done?

Please and Thank you.

I love your Nujabes avatar!

Now that's out of the way, that resolution is particularly horrible... Does the issue happen if you play 1080p video from a non youtube source? Or is it just Flash Player that is experiencing this issue?

(I haven't used a display with that resolution for a long time and have no personal experience scaling video on one)

Its because you are trying to watch 1080p on a 720p screen i guess.

It helps a little, but still looks kinda grainy.

Wondering if it's the YouTube compression.

Thanks!

Could be, YT has an insane compression level even at 1080p now, ever since they started letting people upload 4k.
