I know this is unlikely but would anyone here like to see Steam and other companies like Google (Gmail specifically) prompt you optionally to tie your ID eg. passport drivers license or an official Valve ID thingy to Steam and any other service. I wandered this after loosing my Origin account to some Russian guys and I just gave up with Origin support but if that ever happened to Steam I would fight that full on as I have a crap load of games on Steam and I really wouldn't want to loose all that money. But if you had a proper ID associated with that account it would be even harder for people to steal your account. It would probably not be cost effective for Steam but I would be really greatfull if something like this happened so i could just forget about ever having my account stolen by Russian hackers.

Also Steam really needs a help-line with an actual person so if your account does get nicked you can get it given back to you really easily and quickly.

Well they have Steamguard, which should be more than enough with your Steam account needing a code from your email when signing into a different computer.

If you want a fool proof way to prove to Steam support that you own the account, you can buy a physical Steamworks game(Skyrim for example) from a store and whenever you need to verify that you own the account, send a picture of the CD key with your email written on it or something so you can prove to support that you do in fact own the account.

I can only see a phone number or something like that being used for codes being sent to verify you are the owner. How can you use a passport or driver's license for something like this(serious)?
