How well advised is replacing GPU thermal paste

lol, there's no stickers on my card, so don't need to worry about warranty, but I am skeptical about doing it. . .  I did make a thread about my temps being 75c ish, and the general consensus was that was normal, but I'm still contemplating doing this, is it something many people do or ?

Some cards will have a terrible thermal paste application, some won't.

 

If there is nothing that says it will void the warranty, do it.

this is gonna be a difficult question to answer but. . . . I cannot possibly make it any worse can I? . .  . in terms of heat output (unless i do something stupid obviously like apply too much)

You probably don't need to replace the paste. The most it would do is bring your temps down maybe 5C.

That's half the reason I wanna do it, I don't know how it looks under neath, could be rock solid, or practically non existent, of course only one way to find out, and once you get that far you're pretty much committed. . .  not like I haven't done CPU's before. . . any advice on tightening the cooler back to the pcb? how far is too tight?

goddamit, I'm so pissed off! . . . lol unscrewed 3 of them a little bit and the 4th one was rounded (already), so screwed them back up, but I think this has effects on my temps now, hittin 90c (i stopped before it went higher) on heaven at stock (well 100 fact overclock)

I'm sure you know that airflow in your PC case has a lot to say regarding your GPU temps..... and system temps in general.  Wouldn't it be better to install a second intake fan in your define mini (if you haven't already) instead of messing with the GPU termal paste? like i run a Zotac 780ti with the tripple silencer fans in a stock Define R4 and my GPU temps reach 80 degrees C* when i play far cry 3... and i know that i could lower the temps by installing one or two more fans OR get a new case

try using needle nose or pliers to get it loose

Balls, too late I just wanted to post that 75°C is great and that you should leave it at that. Well I hope you'll get it fixed somehow.

Well if it's going up by 10 degrees each day then replace the compound or RMA it... Most places it won't void the warranty to replace the compound, but it WILL void the warranty if you damage it in any way (Scatching, cracking, chipping, ect.)
