Steam Client Being Stupid Lately

So, It seems like steam has not been working at all lately. When going to look at my profile, it makes me sign in while in the Steam client which gets very annoying. Also, when I try to install a game it just stays on preparing Mirrors Edge files for install and doesnt do anything. It is extremely annoying to deal with and would like to find a fix for it. Thank you!

For me while downloading Max Payne 3 I got a complete system crash. My PC was completely unresponsive. But that might just be memory error perhaps.
