It will most likely work. If not, you could always try http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Fallout_3#Unofficial_Fallout_3_Patch

Or pirate it first maybe?

The thing with Fallout 3 is that it can get finnicky with newer OS's because the way it was made for XP/Vista at the time.

I have very mixed experiences with it. I can play it fine for hours on end and once I reinstall Windows 7 for testing something, it crashes every 5 minutes afterwards.

As Almercenary has said, look at PCGamingWiki for fixes via config files. I however, recommend that if you also have Fallout: New Vegas that you should download and install the Tale of Two Wastelands mod(TTW), this mod brings Fallout 3 over to the Fallout: NV engine, so it's more stable. This mod actually combines the two games together and you can travel between the two. You start in Fallout 3, so you can choose to play F3 and only F3, but if you want to play Fallout: NV, you'll have to disable the mod, or just run to the train station by Dukov's place/mansion and travel to NV and start the story there. You NEED both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas for this mod to work.

Also, I have read that people have better experiences with Windows 8+ for this game due to the fact that W8 has better compatiblity support than W7.

YMMV(Your mileage may vary)
