Amp & Dac for HD 598?

Hey, which amp/dac would you guys suggest to get in combination with my HD 598(nothing super fancy, would like to get a bit more "punch" to the headset that my onboard can't deliver.)?

 

Also how would this affect gaming?

Are you sure your onboard can't deliver that punch? Are you sure it's not the 598 that simply doesn't have that punch you're looking for? Meaning, have you actually test your 598 on other (maybe somebody else's) system, and got that punch, but you don't get it with your onboard?

 

Cheap but decent amp/DAC would be the Syba DAC. Or if you only need the amp, just get the Fiio E6.

By punch do you mean it's not loud enough? Or is there not enough punchy bass? An amp/dac won't help with the latter.

Some of the Fiio lineup have EQ that allows you to boost bass. However, the 598 is probably not going to be "punchy" no matter what you do because it is an open headphone and not particularly bassy.

Basically what @SSL said, if you want a really cheap solution that will still give great sound, I suggest a fiio e6 + d3 dac, or a syba amp+dac from amazon for like $40.

Some open headphones have really nice bass, but only a select few really have the rumble and punch that's enjoyable to many.

If it's not loud enough, then yeah, get an amp. Budget oriented one would be the Fiio E6. 1 step higher would be the E11

Then you absolutely need an amp. That will improve the percieved bass response as human ears are relatively insensitive to quiet low frequencies.
