Current laptop has this processor in it: http://www.notebookc...or.65510.0.html

Do you think the newer 4510U would be a good step up or about the same? If you read the review for the 4710U it says it can be significantly faster than the 3667U but the 3667U scores less in every test if you look at that one so idk.. the i7 has larger cache sizes and smaller die size so better cooling efficiency as well as a much better IGPU

The biggest question is what do you do on your laptop?

I don't think you need an i7 unless you are doing some kind of CPU intensive work, and if you are, a more beefy computer in the form of a Desktop would be better.

The biggest flaw with the i5-2450 that I see is the integrated graphics, that is assuming the laptop in question doesn't come with a dedicated GPU.  I would personally aim for an i3 or i5 with Intel HD 4400 graphics.  i7 isn't necessary unless you really need it.  Check out this Laptop, I was recently considering purchasing it for myself.
