Well intel tends to exaggerate a bit on these performance boosts, probably 20x is the absolute maximum they obtained in a program that's specifically optimized for that cpu, but still even 10x would be awesome :) still, I'll never be able to afford one ^^

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

it comes with an FPGA so yeah you should be seeing that kind of an improvement over some tasks

The reason it can be 20x is because you would configure the FPGA with logic that is optimized for your workload. That's kind of awesome.

I used an Intel/Altera processor/FPGA for the Cornell Cup USA competition last year (DE2i-150), and the results can be pretty cool if you program the FPGA in an optimal way.

+1 Intel. Most people won't care, but some businesses certainly will.

Look up FPGA if you don't know what it is; the TL;DR is that it's an array of transistors that can be programmed and re-programmed to do almost anything, including this:

If i'm honest this is really cool :) But i doubt there would be a lot of software optimized for FPGA ?

You would program the FPGA to be optimized for your software, not the other way around. So cool!

Imagine if consumer CPUs came some day which had FPGAs that could be programmed to do nothing but physics calculations, and do them super fast.

its the same thing that amd uses in kaveri, in HSA compatible apps the performance of the chip grows a lot, intel with this fpga does wath amd has done with trinity and richland because Intel does not have a HUMA similar memory so they will need to work on that a litle bit to arrive to an true HSA chip, and i hope they arrive soon because its the only way that we consumers can obtain this processing power, and for that we need INTEL and AMD to push in the same direction, Its a shame that this XEON chip its a semi-costum chip and not a mainstream
