So, this is my build that I have planned with the help of other forums. I would like to know what the users here think about it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and might even be implemented.

It is (will be) a 1,100 € gaming PC build.

Parts list as follows:

CPU                    Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core
Motherboard       Asus H97-PRO ATX LGA1150
Memory              Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
Storage              Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" SSD
                           Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card         Asus Radeon R9 280X 3GB DirectCU II
Case                  Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower
Power Supply     Super Flower Golden Green HX 80 Plus Gold 650W
Optical Drive      Lite-On iHAS124-14 DVD/CD Writer

I´ll be ordering the parts soon from www.PCComponentes.com, unless anyone knows of a better vendor in Spain.

Your opinions will be highly regarded!

Thank you!  :)

Who makes the Z9Z board? Did you mean Z97 by ASUS?

What do you think of the Intel® Core™ i5-4670K Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)? I want a balance between my GPU and my CPU. Does this achieve that?

I´ve cut down on RAM. I knen I didn´t need it.  <_<

Thanks for the input!

By the way, I just realized that I think that now I´m overclock ready

Am I correct?

Also, as long as PCPartpicker.com does not give any red flags, will everything fit toghether?

Thanks!  :D

yea with the CPU and the Z97 board

you can do basic OC but best pair it with a CoolerMaster 212 Evo air cooler

Sure will include an aftermarket cooler once I decide to overclock.

Most PSU calcuators are saying 450W. Whats your opinion on using a 650W PSU?

Are there any bottlenecking risks? Is this issue of mine not a problem? Is my ignorance keeping me worried?

I´ll be ordering the parts soon! Cant wait!

650 Watts will be plenty

if you feel its over the top go for 600 Watts for OC headroom and additional HDD

no bottlenecks

Wait a week or two for the 4690k, it will overclock better but if you don't want to wait, thats a good build

Hello again!

I have managed to order all the parts! There is one issue.

I ordered my PSU from a different vendor as the rest of the parts and I screwed up. Tomorrow a 550 W PSU is going to arrive at my door instead of a 650 W  :(.

Here is the final part list that has already arrived:

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor                     10W - 84W

MSI Z97-G55 SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard                             17W - 70W

Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory      9W - 9W

Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive        4W - 20W

Crucial MX100 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive                               1W - 5W

Asus Radeon R9 280X 3GB DirectCU II Video Card                    62W - 250W

Total:                                                                                           103W - 438W

PCpartpicker.com is giving me a total of 438 W, but everyone has advised me to get a 650 W PSU. Why is this? What are the risks of building it with a 550 W

This is the PSU that is on the way Seasonic S12G-550 550W ATX23 80+ Gold https://www.alternate.es/Seasonic/S12G/html/product/1105763?

I´m very bummed out about this  I need expert feedback soon in order to decide if I order another or cancel this one.

Thanks a lot guys!

Thanks for the feedback!

And how much better would a 650 W be assuming I don´t add parts or overclock in the future? Why did everyone tell me to get a 650 W?

I intend to do INTENSE gaming sessions.

I´m feeling retarded  -_- Shold of paid attention when ordering.

650W is the sweet spot IMO, great if you wanna SLI/xfire in the future.

Ok. What a headache.

I´ve got this PSU on the way: Super Flower Golden Green HX 80 Plus Gold 650W LINK

Connectors:

  • 1 x 20+4pin
  • 1 x 4+4Pin CPU
  • 5 x Molex
  • 5 x SATA
  • 1 x SLI
  •

This is the GPU that I have: R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 LINK

Power consumption: up to 300Wadditional 6+8 pin PCIe power required

Can I feed my GPU with this PSU?

I really fail to understand this stuff. Its gonna take me hours to plug it all in.

Hope somebody can give me a heads up on the compatibility of these two.

Thank you!

EDIT: Its all good. It should work. I was just worried that I´d have to send back a 2nd PSU. If you think for any reason that I´ll run into trouble with this model, please let me know.

Thanks a lot! Will be linking pictures of the buil in a couple of days! So long as I dont mess up and fry it :)

The Superflower is a very good psu. It will be fine for your system.

The 20+4 pin goes into the motherboard. The 4+4 pin also goes into the motherboard. You might have a 4 pin connector, or 8 pin connector depending on the board. So if you only need 4 pin then use half of the connector. If you need 8 pin then the connectors will join together. They usually have a small tab on the end of each connector so you know how it joins. It will only go in one way  :)

The SATA connectors are for the SSD, HDD and optical drive.

Molex isn't used that much, although some fans have a molex connector to connect directly to the power supply.

The SLI (Pci-e) cable is for the graphics card. The connectors are 6+2 so the 280X needs a 6 pin and 8 pin connector usually. Plug one cable into the 6 pin and leave the 2 pin part loose. The other cable you need to join together to make it an 8 pin for the second connector on the graphics card.

Does all that make sense ?  :D

Wow that helps a LOT. Like.. A LOT

So there are acutally 2 SLI cables? Then why doesn´t it say so in the specs? It sais "1 x SLI"

I see that PSUs are pretty much the same in terms of connectors. Am I correct?

Thank you! I think I might post again when I´m hands on.

Happy days! :)

Ummmm WHAT?  I have no Idea. This is the Part number: SF-650P14XE (HX)

I just really have no clue. Hope the manual clears things up

EDIT: According to lee32uk that´s the SLI

I think it is just the way Superflower name the cable. They are usually called pci-e cables.

If you look at the power supply from this uk website you will see that it has 4 x 6+2 pci-e cables  :)

Well SLI means 2 graphics cards (Nvidia) so for that you need 4 pci-e connectors. I assume that there are 4 separate cables, each with a 6+2 connector on it.

I could of sworn that I had already replied to this post.

Thanks a lot. That makes it much clearer.

Tonight I will install It. Really hope It works out.

By the way, can anyone recommed any special way to plug in my SSD with the hardware I have? I´ve heard that there is a wrong way and a right way to do it.

Thanks!

Are you doing a fresh install of windows ?

If so then don't attach the hard drive. Only plug the SSD and optical drive in. Go into the bios before you install windows and make sure that 'AHCI' mode is enabled. Look in the motherboard manual if you can't find the option.

Install windows onto the ssd, and when you have updated all the drivers etc then plug in the HDD.

It is also a good idea beforehand to download all the latest drivers for the motherboard and graphics card, and put them on a usb stick. The ones on the supplied disc are usually out of date.
