So a friend asked me to build him a $1200 gaming build and I decided to turn it into a competition with a friend (Str_Mape).

We were allowing $200 for peripherals and accessories (fans) and the build needed to be Micro ATX and include a monitor.

Which build do you guys think is better and why? What would you change? :

i say the one with the 290

most games are GPU limited except some poorly coded games which depend on the CPU

and that PNY SSD is alright but I suggest going for the Samsung Evo

is there a real need to spend 200 dollars on keyboard and mouse?

If you do opt for the 290 build, you should get the overclockable pentium (i forgot the exact name)... And a z87 board to go along with it; as it over clocks like crazy.

Also, if you pick the same (cheaper) case and psu from the pentium build for the AMD build, you could then get an i5 instead of the amd chip--which is what I would do.

P.s. those two builds aren't even good comparisons as the amd board also has a 3tb hdd not to mention a more expensive psu, case, and ssd, while the pentium build has a more expensive mobo and ram.

Anyway....

i5 ($180~)

h87 mobo ($80~) or z87 mobo if you want SLI/Crossfire compatibility ($120~)

Hyper 212 (only if you're overclocking or the stock fan noise bothers you) ($20~)

8gb Team Vulcan Ram ($65~)

128gb Mx100 ($80~) or 256gb mx100 ($110~)

1TB WD Caviar Blue ($60~)

R9 290 ($400~)

Prodigy M ($60~)

650w psu ($60~)

Monitor ($100~)

Total: $1100~
