I suspected that from the beginning. I thought it was something like a HP, Compaq, etc. PC with 2TB, 4GB, crappy Celeron or Pentium, and other BS along with "labor costs". Labor costs to me only applies to automotives, construction, and actual physical work. Lifting a PC case should not be that difficult and a stick of ram does not even remotely compare to a goddamn exhaust pipe.

I know I could've built her that whole PC for $350 if not less but Like I said it was 2 years ago so what ever if she needs an upgrade I'll do it I'mma keep her away from that shop...they wanted to charge me almost $300 for a R7 265 :/ and that was just to buy it

HA this is where you are wrong.  As a computer technician you have to keep the stores lights on and other expenses.  In addition, a smaller store will have to mark up parts and labour more make money.  ALso, putting the computer together loading Windows, Updates and drivers takes time when the computer technician could be doing other things that's why there is a labour cost.

While I agree with you there is no reason to charge that much for a build that costed no more than $400. The only reason this place is still open is because they are the only one with in a 100mile radius...if I had the money I would start my own company just to see them go out of business

Yes, but a $300 PC shouldn't be charged at $500 or worse. Alienware, for example lives on brand alone just like Beats and Apple.

But all brands do this also because they can and they have a "Name" that people like and if they can get away with it they will.

Yeah but look at a windows 7 licence also costs the customer $139.99 in Canada right now so add that to the parts and labour.  Also taxes on top of that and boom almost at the price your Grandma payed for the computer.

But all brands do this also because they can and they have a "Name" that people like and if they can get away with it they will.

Opps double post

You don't get a license when you buy a PC. All you get is a registered Windows PC or Mac. If anything, it should be $300 for the parts, $100 for the OS licensing, and around $50 for labor. That's $450 for a cruddy PC. Compare this to $500 for parts, $100 for OS, $100 for name brand, and $100 for labor. That's a $800 PC passed off as a "Gaming PC". Complete and utter BS, in my opinion.

This is why I don't like Alienware, OriginPC, Toyota, Honda, Apple, Beats, TurtleBeach, Tritton, and many more. I don't like how they just use their names to up their prices. And you know what's worse? People buy into the belief that they're getting a superior product when there's others that are just as good or even better. If I wanted a high-MPG car, I could go to Nissan, Fiat, Chevrolet, or hell, Smart and I hate those little buggers. If I wanted a pair of headphones, I could buy some from Superlux, Sony, or Koss. Whatever, it's not my problem anyway.

Ummmm Windows 7 computer from all major brands have a licence sticker on the side of the case which make you able to reactivate it later but what you don't get is the Windows "DISK".

Correct they shouldn't have charged you that much I don't know how much a XP licence was at the time but realistically around 500 taxes in.

And then, you go bankrupt... that's easier to say than done. To own a company is not as simply as sell everything at a low price, there's a lot more into it. You have to pay for so much and then you'll have the government at your back sucking your money like mosquitoes suck blood. And while they're at it whispering to your ear "We. Want. More...".

They gave out Windows XP discs back then. I'm not kidding. My dad bought a Presario back then and they just gave him a Windows XP Home disc.

Yeah the disk with a licence?

Yes. I think we still have it. You could use it to install Windows XP in other rigs as well and it would count as a genuine installation. Guess why Microsoft stopped doing this with Windows Vista.

If that's what they are doing that is a bit much at the most at my store a mark up on a $170 card is $230 at the most.

exactly and they were charging that for a reference card so in reality it was more like a $150 card

That means nothing to me nor means it will go well. Go on, open your own business.
