EK backplates for water only?

I'm keen on the DCII R9 280 and I'm hoping to get a backplate for it. I knew that EK had a plate for the DCII 280X and it turns out it's been confirmed to work with the 280 as the pcb is the same I think.

My question is will this actually work? I don't plan on watercooling, just using the DC, and no one seems to have done this before. The EK backplate also isn't perforated for airflow like Asus' backplates are.

DCU 2 coolers only mount using the 4 holes at the corner of the GPU itself, without seeing the backplate your talking about I would have to just say compare how the 2 are mounted then decide  for yourself.
