Hi guys,

I am looking to get a webcam for my desktop and I need some advice/recommendations.  I am looking for 1080, but it is not a breaking point.  I would also like to be around the $50 mark or less, but I can spend a little more if there is a big difference.  I will mostly be using this webcam for skype and video calls.

Thanks!

Lol just get any webcam that's atleast 720p and at a decent price.  Anything is fine for Skype and video calls, really.

I have a microsoft lifecam studio. in windows 8 you can capture 1080p ( not in win 7 tho).
very nice imagequality. The sound is superb and even under very bad light conditions you have a nice clear image.

Thanks for all of the responses!  I really do like the logitech, but it is a little pricey.  From the ones I have looked at it seems like i could spend another $20ish and get the nice logitech you guys have. Is it worth that $20-30 for the upgrade from 720 to 1080 for this webcam?

What are you use scenarios? Most often 1080p is pretty much overkill and 720p is more than enough. You have to take into account your own upload speed and if your recipients even need to/can see you at 1080p.

I am about to move to Texas, so I don't know the general internet there.  I have a 50 MB rate now with a hard line in it, so not a worry there.  Realistically I would probably be just fine with a 720p camera.  I was just unsure of which ones are better than others (I really like logitech as a brand, but I would like specific model recommendations please :) ).

Just get whichever Logitech C-series webcam fits in your budget, imo. I have C270 and its already amazing. I think its basically C270 for the base 720p, then C525 for a more feature rich 720p and C920 for the 1080p.
