Sony apparently has officially announced some of its VR headset specs, teasing fans with what should they expect when the manufacturer’s headset finally hits the market. The manufacturer apparently points to a 5″ panel, boasting a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, 60 frames per second and a field of view of up to 100°, though most likely it will be 90° as a start.

There you have it Sony's specs for project Morpheus, I don't know how well this compares to the specs of the Rift.

Also one of the engineers for the Morhpeus, Anton Mikhailov, gets that fps is not just a number

“Frame rate and latency should have really high priority, much more so than [...] now when you make a game, you can sort of say, ‘Oh, I’m going to choose to do a 30fps game because it’s more cinematic,’ or whatever, or, ‘I’m going to cram more graphics into it. In VR, it’s not really a choice. You have to go at least 60, preferably higher. It’s kind of a new bar. There are new rules you should obey as a developer. Frame rate and latency are really, really important. [...] There is definitely a graphical limit that you can’t go lower than”.

The rift will be around 90Hz and i think they will be using a display over 1080 so we will see how much better it is.

Morpheus is only going to be playing content from consoles and maybe sony tv so i don't see sony spec being a let down ps4 games are 1080 at 60 at best.

And probably a greater cost as well. If Sony makes morpheus PC compatible, we might have a good price war on our hands :)

umm no. Considering that dev kits are $350 and they are looking to minimize the cost i doubt it

Finally my Santa hat doesn't look out of place

you forget that facebook is now bankrolling rift so they can sell it at cost and make money on applications. i expect the rift to be the same price of a tn gaming monitor so around 300, i think that would be a good cost if you could use it for watching movie because watching a movie with the rift with a tablet or laptop on a plane would be awesome.

oculus are going to sell cv1 at cost, which means they are making very little money off of the headsets alone, sony on the other are looking to monetize the headset

i'm guessing cv1 to be $200-250 and morpheus to be $250+

These are all good points, but you do have to consider that Sony may do what they did with the PS4 and sell at cost also. They might have lower over heads as well as a lot of the tech they can source internally, while OR might have to go external for more.

im pretty sure at this point facebook can afford to do something as risky as selling at a cost than sony

You can't bitch about the specs of this, it's fine really especially considering it's going to be running off a PS4... It's not meant to compete with the Rift, it's meant to be something over the XB1 more than the PC.

LMAO Really Sony? You are not going for the "filmic" look? It's good to know you'll be able to play some small, 2D indie games at 1080p 60FPS in glorious VR and fucking nothing else worth playing on VR

How will the PS4 run VR games at even 60 fps at 1080p? That's like reccomending a low end AMD CPU and R9 270 with 8 GB of VRAM and saying that they will get stable 60 fps running at 1080p for the next few years. That won't happen. I am disappointed with consoles. They hold us back yet claim to be on the frontier of new technologies. At least make them upgradeable!

My eyes started to tear T_T finally a non-idiotic and realisitc statement.Hope in technology restored.

They should make it pc compatible else its waste of R&D for PS4 only.

Yeah Sony and non-proprietary stuff, not a very good relationship: they just announced the vita tv box thing and it's still using the stupid fucking proprietary and overpriced memory cards....I wouldn't get my hopes up.

They really can't use normal SD cards at this point. The Playstation TV is nothing more than Vita without a screen. It's quite literally Vita hardware inside of it. It's not even a new thing. It's simply a rebranding of the Vita TV that was released last year in Japan.

Understood, but forgive me if I don't cry a river at a problem of their own creation.
