Sorry, but I don't watch TV because nearly all of the content is crap, except for sports(imo) and there's an ungodly amount of ads.

Even for $8 a month, it's going to be filled with ads and I am not interested in it.

+ 1 ... "TV" is a dying platform IMO. I never watch TV anymore.

Still, Its much cheeper than cable. I'm not sure how they plan to implement the add system to on demand stuff.

Personally I think this is something that's been a long time coming. TV needs this if it's going to survive.

The internets is the future for all content to be honest. In the future channels like HBO and such will move their content onto sites like YouTube and use paid subscriptions to reach out to their audience. The internet has already taken already so much away from the television and I see no way back for the TV unfortunately

+2 I watch all of my favourite TV shows online. I very rarely watch the TV. I don't necessarily think TV should die though. It still has its uses. Great for watching something when you don't want to choose what you actually watch. i.e. have you ever tried to watch Netflix or similar but find you actually can't decide so you don't watch anything?

You'll have "channels" that you can watch, but they'll be more like Youtube channels, and most things you'll watch on the "TV" will be through your broadband connection, streaming whatever content to you, whenever you want. There wont be any "waiting for the 6 o'clock news" anymore... there will be "play news now".... But that's just my take on things :)

When will companies learn that ads just aren't worth it. Most of the time people either record or pirate shows, causing their ads to go unnoticed anyway. Why ruin a potentially good idea by adding ads to the equation.

That's my point though. Sometimes I don't want to have to choose. (sounds stupid but we are human so we don't always make sense). When streaming, if we can't decide what to put on, nothing is put on. While watching TV, we have to decide what to turn off. If we can't decide, something is left on. Have you ever been flicking through the channels and said; "there is nothing on, I suppose I will just leave anything on". I think its a case that we can't commit to watching something we know is crap but we can admit defeat and just watch whatever is on.

Also with TV channels there is a finite number of channels to watch but with streaming any show we like, there is almost an infinite number of things to watch. So when you stream, you can be endlessly scrolling through things to watch and never choose one but with TV channels you only have so many choices until you're back to the start.
