My next pc will have a R9 270 gpu wich I would like to oc. I will probably use amd overdrive or msi afterburner. Now I watched a lot of tut's how to oc and you need to test if the new clock is stable by opening a game or some 3D program. So can I just leave the game open or I have to : Increase the clock speed>open the game>close the game>Increase the clock speed> and over and over. Or can i just leave the game running? I would use Cs 1.6 wich is a very low demanding game. Is that ok? Thanks !

I'd say the best way is to run the game/benchmark and monitor the temps. Then close it and increase the clock speed, then go and run the game/bench again and watch the temperatures and look for artefacts. Keep doing this until you get to a point that you're happy with the performance, temps and no artefacts.

Can i keep the game running? Cs 1.6 is very low demanding game. I will just look at the fps rising and look for artifacts.

MSI kombustor will kill an unstable overclock really quickly and is design to test the stability of both the GPU and the VRAM separately, making it easier to clock them both to max stable settings...

if you decide to test your overclock with games it's a mess...use the MOST DEMANDING titles you own, forget about minecraft or CS those wont do it...and with games it's hard because one game will run fine and then you try another and it will crash...i would really recommand using GPU benchmarking sofware or SOFTWARE SPECIALLY DESIGN TO TEST YOUR GPU OVERCLOCKS like KOMBUSTOR.

Thanks for your help but once again - can I keep the software running and increaste the clock speeds?

with kombustor you just hit STOP, then you dial next clock speed in afterburner, hit apply, then re-start the test...you dont have to close the software...only stop the test, it takes 1 second

With those tool you can get a succesful overclock in no time...then test games to see if they are stable, they should be.
