R9 290 Reference Model worth?

Sooo I ordered my computer from a local store, and they mailed my saying they got the reference model (after making me wait for weeks) by mistake and if I want that one or wait for the MSI model to arrive...is it worth to get the reference model or just wait?

Don't get a reference model. They are loud and they are tiny combustion engines. Waiting is 9001% worth it.

I had that feeling...I guess I will wait, noise is no matter to me, but high temps are.

Only time they're worth it is when you're water cooling them or mounting them really close together in a small case.

Wait and ask them for a discount to make up for the mistake. Don't accept a reference card, it makes no sense.

even then the temperatures get off the charts... at that point might as well get an xfx card which is completely flat on the bottom and does not interfere with close cards.

AMD's reference coolers are crappy, no effort has gone into them.  It's like their heads are back in 2009 when the 5870 was the coolest thing on the planet.  Sorry AMD, your cards are frickin hot now.

It would make sense if you put something like a Corsair HG10 + liquid cooler on it. That would yield great temps, but it will probably void the warranty of the card.

please, please wait.  The refrence card is like a plane taking off and it burns like hell, litterally.  Unless you plan to watercool the refrence design is useless imo.

They're shipping me the Gigabyte version for less 10€ than the reference model, not really a big fan (ah!) of gigabyte version, but I will end up saving about 30/40€. (and MSI would take a month to arrive, and tbh this store is playing with me long enough).
