i'm just pretty good at guessing.

Just kidding, my methods are weird and not very professional but it works lol.

I usually split everything in triangles with a right angle (dunno how they are called in english) and from then pythagoras and sin/cos/tan functions.

but i thought sine/cos/tan and pythagoras only worked on right angle triangle ( apart from cos and sine rule

yeah thats what i was saying

you can just split the triangle into two right angled triangles and go from there on.

He's using Pythagoras's Theorm to find the length of the long side from the two shorter ones.
