I know there are plenty of guides of how to take the IHS off of an Intel Ivy Bridge CPU, but what about not only removing it, replacing the thermal compund, and putting it back on??

What glue would you use to put it back on correctly?? And what would be a good thermal paste taht will last that way you do not have to take it apart again?

If I were to do this to my CPU I want to do it correctly. Not just take it off and do something temporary.

Lol you don't glue it back on... The glue is why we take the ihs off in the first place. The glue creates a gap between the ihs and the die, filled with thermal paste.

You want that die right on the ihs. So use something thin and metal based like coollaboratory liquid ultra/pro.

Put any TIM under between the ihs and cooler, doesn't matter much anymore.

Not even a super thin layer, of almost temporary glue??? i just want it to be held on there properly and look unmodified.

Put the delidded chip with the paste on the die into the socket. Then put the ihs onto the die and close the latch on your board.

The whole chip is held down by the socket latch.

If you really want to glue it back together, idk for selling it 2nd hand, you can get some glue for high temps at the hw store.
