I5 + GTX 780 all the way for gaming. 8GB is plenty...PSU is WAY WAY overkill...get a 600W unless you plan SLI

What kind of editing are we talking about here? Because the only way you'll need that i7 is if it's a lot of editing. Same goes for the 16GB of RAM. Also, what resolution will you be gaming at? Because if you're playing at 1080p, you definitely don't need a 780 Ti.

I'd say go with build #1 with the 780 for the moment, but tone the RAM down to 8GB instead of 16GB. That way, if it turns out you need more you can always add it later. RAM is cheap as chips nowadays. :)

EDIT: Also, what these guys ^ said about the PSU. 600-650W will do you just fine for a single graphics card.

i5 + 16GB + GTX 780 makes the most sense if doing a fair bit of editing. Otherwise 8GB is sufficient.

650W psu is more than sufficient for needs. Unless you actually plan to purchase another GTX 780 in the next 12 months don't bother with worrying about SLI. I say this because if the decision is further out then you will be salivating over an entirely new generation of faster, more powerful gpu. And if the 750 is any indication, with much lower power demands.

Wait for the i5-4690K to be released.

Get the least expensive 2x8GB (or 2x4GB) DDR3-1600 CAS <=9 or DDR3-1866 CAS <=10 memory kit that is compatible with whatever cpu cooling solution you decide on.

Similarly, you don't need a high performance ssd for gaming or general purpose use. Get a well priced average performer and use the save budget on other components.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Because of the video editing, I would recommend:

CPU:  Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($339.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard:  ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($143.99 @ Newegg)
Memory:  Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($79.98 @ OutletPC)
Memory:  A-Data XPG V2 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Storage:  Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($84.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card:  Asus GeForce GTX 780 3GB DirectCU II Video Card  ($478.80 @ Newegg)
Case:  Corsair 450D ATX Mid Tower Case  ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1511.62
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

 Logic:
1. CPU is newest from intel,
2. Motherboard is using Z97 chipset, also newest from intel, to support new CPU. If you NEED some features from the $70-90 more Maximus, you can switch to that, otherwise, this is a good board.
3. 8GB memory is fine for what you are doing. If you need more, buy another set on sale later.
4. I like Samsung Evo's   ;) The Kingston is also good :) I would recommend 256GB SSD instead, 128 will fill FAST, and its nice to be able to put most played games on there too for fast loads.
5. GTX780 is amazing, plenty of powa!

If you dont need the Power from the i7, switch to the 4690K instead: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54690k Also newest from intel, just an i5 instead.

Hope this helps! Have fun building!
