R9 280 vs 280x

I am going to be building a gaming pc soon and I was wondering if there was a particularly large gap in performance between the 280 and the 280x. I can buy the 280 for £170 and the 280x for £220 and I was wondering whether the performance difference is worth £50.

The 280 is a 7950 and the 280X is the 7970. A year ago, I was planning to use the 7950 because it wasn't worth the extra money.

 

I would suggest you get the R9 280, overclock a little if you want, and save the extra money for a SSD.

You can buy 280x's on Amazon with decent aftermarket cooler as low as £130.

 

I'd buy it via Amazon because of miners. In the event it dies return via Amazon if it's within it's period if not then proof of purchase = Amazon when you RMA the card.
