Safe to disable firewall?!

Hey everyone, i wanted to try get into DayZ (the Arma 2 mod) and it was working fine a few months back, but after doing a fresh install of everything on my PC, i can no longer join any server, at all. I tried reinstalling it and still the same problem, so the only thing i can think of is a problem with my firewall, as my connection i guess is being blocked? I have no trouble on any other game, so was wondering is it safe to disable my firewall and try join a server to see if that's the issue? or is this a bad idea... thanks :)

Just set your firewall to let dayz/arma2 bypass it

I have tried this and it still doesnt seem to want to work. I've added it as an excluded program, but was thinking maybe it is blocking something else needed?
