I'm planning on getting a CM Storm Quickfire TK w/t blue switches and I've decided to add a bit of a personal look to it by adding the WASD and the number keys from the Corsair K70 and adding some custom keycaps for the rest.

But there is one idea that I've had that i'm not sure it will work. I noticed on the Quickfire TK that it doesn't have a wrist rest and the only good wrist rest that I've seen for a keyboard is the wrist rest of the K70. Since the wrist rest for the K70 can be bought separately  I was planning on finding a way to attach it to the TK but my problem is that since the Quickfire TK is "tenkeyless" the wrist rest wouldn't fit and would hang off the sides of the keyboard.

My only solution to this problem is finding a way to cut off a couple of inches of each side of the wrist rest and then attaching it the the keyboard by screwing it to the body of the keyboard or possibly using heavy duty industrial glue. I understand that i could just get a separate wrist rest like a ducky but that would just get rid of the personal touch that i'm going for.

Do you think this amount of time and effort is worth it to have a completely custom original keyboard or am I just wasting my time?

I really don't think it'll be as easy as cutting some inches off thw wrist rest.

The Corsair wrist rest is made to attach to the keyboards underneath, not sit in front of it. It's going to be sliding all over the place unless you find a way to tie it down to the keyboard. Honestly, I don't think it's worth the trouble. There's several alternatives out there, from plastic and wood to memory foam and leather.

Regarding the keycaps, go for it :P

Well, I was going to attach it with screws or some kind of glue the body of the keyboard so it wouldn't budge but that might not work out as well as I've hoped... I guess i'll see about maybe getting a custom one made similar in shape to the K70 wrist rest that will be easier to attach. :/

If you cut off the ends, even if you seal off the cuts with epoxy or hot glue, the ends will erode quickly.

What I suggest you do is go to an art supply house, get some casting resin or some other sculpting material

( here is an example: http://www.dickblick.com/products/castincraft-clear-polyester-casting-resin/ ;http://www.dickblick.com/products/pebeo-gedeo-resins/ ). Then you should be able to mold your own.

And don't be afraid to ask the people in the store for advice!
