Would This Work Well?

Now, Networking is one of my downfalls, as I completely suck at it.  But we've had a crappy modem router for a while and my Mother wants to upgrade because our modem router is breaking.  So, my Mum set aside a massive amount of money to upgrade everything ($500NZD!!!) Now, I dont intend on spending it all but I'm in charge of choosing all the things to order for the network and manage it.  

 

So, I wanted to get a stand alone modem and a stand alone router for the best upgradability so we dont need a whole new modem router every time we want to upgrade.  So I was thinking of just a standard Netgear Modem and a Netgear Nighthawk r7000 since we need fast connection but not SO fast someone has a heart attack.  

 

So I'm wondering if this will do the trick well, and I'm not even sure if it will work with my isp.  I know nothing.  So, I'm asking for your help for choosing a better configuration and/or some basic questions, like should it work with my isp?  And how do I find out.  

 

We're on ADSL2+ I think (I get about 17mbs down and about 1mbs up?) and we are on Telecom NZ.   

 

I generally want to order from ComputerLounge.co.nz, pbtech.co.nz or pcforce.co.nz

Well it depends on whether you need wi fi, the range, etc...

yeah I need wifi, well. Not me but my Mum, she has a mac across the house, she gets like 3mbs down currently while I get 15mbs down.
