yes, it would work, but it would run at the core clock of the slowest card, plus, it wont look as good, but make sure you have a good enough power supply

As long as they are both R9-290s it does not matter which vendor they are from. But I would preferably opt to use 2x Asus R9-290s as they come with higher clocks, and from my experience better quality overall.

i havent experienced a significant quality difference between mayor brands

Asus versions have higher clock speeds and backplates... ergo.. better :)

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS. YOU WILL HAVE ISSUES WITH THIS. ASUS has a custom PCB different than Gigabyte's which will cause Crossfire issues.
