Hi

So more recently a friend of mine kept telling me to keep an eye on media errors when it comes to SSDs

I've got an ADATA SX8200 PNP 2TB - it's an M.2 SSD and had it for about 5 years, but i never kept an eye on media errors until my friend told me about them, he was saying how they're pretty crucial when it comes to an SSD failing or not.

So i did a scan with AIDA64 EXTREME and says my M.2 is at 88% health and has about 7500 media errors.

I've never really had problems with it but just asking - are media errors that important ?

I don't quite understand what those "media errors" are, and how they are uniquely tied to an SSD's drive health, being a good indicator of NAND health.
Open cmd as administrator and run "sfc /scannow", and "chkdsk /r"(it takes time, but it does data allocation from bad sectors to good).

Uhm ok not that I'm not happy with that but... why do some people say that value should be like 50 or even when searching with AI like chatgpt it says it shouldn't be high like at all ?

The annoying part is every manafacture has the smart data mean different things, so you don't really know what those mean typically. If the drive isn't having data errors in the OS, I'd keep using it and just make sure backups are good.

Uhm - how would I even know if it's having data errors in the OS ?

Sorry just got no clue.

What happens with the value after PC restart ? Does it increase by 1 or 2?

Can you run crystaldiskunfo and give us a screenshot.

But if it's A0 then it's ECC or CRC errors, or LBA mismatch.

Can be problem with signal etc, not just the SSD, but can also be a SSD.

It does not increase if i restart the PC

Also that screenshot from AIDA64 - i actually did run Crystal Disk and had the exact same results but didn't make a screenshot of that, but check out my above one i got the exact same info from both programs - i know because i ran both programs that same day i just only screenshotted AIDA64

If you're getting afraid of metrics you don't understand, don't look in Windows event viewer at the "system" section

Can you post a screenshot from crystaldiskinfo, i want to see the RAW of all attributes.

if it’s sx8200 pro, there were some 2TB version on not so good NAND, like: SK Hynix V6 128l TLC, Samsung V-NAND V6 128l TLC, or SpecTek B27A FortisFlash 96l TLC.

it wouldn't be strange if those fail, or throw ECC error if they weren’t rewrite in years.
but get the crystaldiskinfo screen first

I don't have Crystal Disk installed anymore, but either way it does not show the actual manufacturer brand or how the layer count.

I did do a quick search with AI using the exact full model from the screenshot - it said it uses 3D TLC NAND most likely 96-128 layers.

Different question guys : does the Kingston NV3 - 2TB need a heatsink ?

Might get one soon

Yes, you should get a heatsink. The SSD you're looking at heats up and throttles without a heatsink:

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/kingston-nv3/8.html

And heatsinks aren't expensive at all, around £10 where I am for a quality one.
