Laptop not Booting

I have a Toshiba S855-S5377 and I have DBANed the hard drive through a different computer but didn't have the time to finish so I turned it off when it was fairly close to the end. I DBANed because I wanted Windows 8 off and I wanted a fresh install of Windows 7. I then installed Windows 7 off another onto hard drive and put it back in the laptop. I try to boot in the new Windows 7 and I keep getting a message of: Checking Media fail. Checking Media fail then a new screen that says: No bootable device -- Please restart system. If you need anymore info just ask. Thanks for any help!

You need to install windows on the laptop. Boot from a cd or usb drive in to the win 7 iso and install it to the laptop.

it simply is this. if you cannot find a laptop VERY SIMILAR to or exactly the one you are using that can boot off of a CD or USB, you cannot install it on that system.
If you reset the bios you should be able to boot from a CD or USB.

Well now I have a different problem. I boot from Cd and it says windows is loading files. Then it says starting windows. It will sit there for ever.

is the screen frozen? is your CD a legit copy? Is your CD scratched? how long is for ever? sometimes it takes a while to load the files. if it fails to load them for whatever reason, it is almost always either a dirty/scratched disk, a dead or dying optical drive, or an illegitimate copy of windows. Or in some cases, RAM.

you said your laptop came with windows 8.1? Have you checked to see if your laptop can actually run on windows 7?

Throw the CD in another PC and boot to it. if it loads into the setup, then the problem lies in the laptop. If it hangs again, get a new CD or clean the one you have.

If it is the laptop, first try blowing it out of dust. IF it still wont load, check the manufacturers website to see if it supports windows 7. If it does support windows 7, check the RAM. try taking one piece out, try swapping them around, try every combo. If this doesnt fix your issue, try running memtest.

I have to assume you do not have access to another laptop optical drive, so trying a different one is likely out of the question. if it is not out of the question, try a new one. 

If ALL of this fails. 

Check to see if the hard drive is failing. 

If the hard drive passes tests (i use hirens 9.7 for testing tool)  try installing a different OS. Try windows 8 again. or XP if you have a disc. 

If you STILL have issues. let me know because i just went through every situation my semi-normal functioning brain could think of...

I think I found it I never knew a computer couldn't just upgrade to windows 7 (see what I did there) yea I'm pretty sure it needs windows 8. Thanks for your help and this was a great learning experiance for me. Now I have to find a windows 8 Cd considering I don't have one. But thanks again for all the help.

Windows 7 is for sure an upgrade from windows 8.

And hey, not a problem man!

You should be able to go to any tech store and have them let you use the CD. I'm sure they will just hand over a copy of it. ( A burned copy, of course.) Or a friend might have one.

you need to tell the laptop where to boot from in the bios

I may know where I can find one. But I don't know about a product key. That costs the store money and if I have to pay I might as well buy one myself.

never had to enter a serial number for windows 8 before so i don't know where it would be...
