Hey there,

I put some stuff together with future upgradeability in mind, but when looking at the cost and capabilities of that machine, i think i might have overspecced for my usecase.

Is there a way to downgrade a bit, or is there anything i missed ?

Heres a Partlist: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/6y96sK

Thanks in Advance 🙂

I'd use the stock cooler, that CPU doesn't make much heat, and I think the stock cooler is onpar with that ultra low profile noctua.

What OS do you plan on using here?

N2 is nice case, I have one laying around with a xeon D board in it.

Welcome back to the forums!
That's WILDLY over spec for RAM. Honestly, I'd grab a single 8GB stick used and hunker til the crisis is over

Thanks 🙂

Thats a good idea, i have a spare 16gb ripjaw stick lying around. Its 3600mhz, while the motherboard supports up to 3200, are they still compatible, just not using its full potential, or won`t that work ?

faster ram will work at the limit of the motherboard

So i think i will still go with the noctua cpu cooler, since the machine will be in my living room.

Ive switched to 3 4TB HDDs with less rpm to further dampen noise. In Raid5 thats still 8TB usable to start things out.

Is the Cache on the HDDs actually important for light homeuse cases, or can i ignore those specs and go with the 128mb cache ones to save some bucks ?

Oh and can the m.2 drive be cache and host the os at the same time, or do i need another ssd or smth ?
