Glitch during video playback

Go to solution Solved by Prabh Arora,

I slowed down your video and inspected it.

Look at it. It's not the entire display. Just the part that is rendered by your GPU (graphics chip).

If it's always inside the rendered video, it's definitely your Graphics chip malfunctioning. The question is if it's hardware or software.

I would recommend doing this first. Google "Your laptop model" + "drivers"

Find their official website(usually at the top) and then make sure it looks like your laptop and download your latest GPU drivers there (if dedicated GPU) if not dedicated just download the latest Chipset drivers there. (or any and all drivers that has AMD or Intel written on it depending on the chip you have.

If downloading and updating that doesn't fix it then it's the GPU part of your laptop thats messed up and I highly recommend claiming your warranty on this.

PS. I own a repair shop and have been repairing tech for over 25 years.

Hello

I occasionally get a glitch during video playback. It mostly happens when loading into a new video but it can also happen when I jump between tabs. I have 3 examples. Is this a hardware failure so I should RMA it or is it a software glitch? I've been able to replicate it with twitch as well. The issue started around 3 weeks ago and I bought the laptop during black friday.

if your laptop is under warranty simply ask for support, most likely you will need to RMA it. i wouldn't bother troubleshooting if it's new hardware

  • 2 weeks later...

Soooooo... short update: I brought it in to store i bought it at and the clerk/tech guy said that as long as it only happens in a single browser it will probably be pointless to send it off to repair because they will most likely claim that Firefox is the problem and nothing with the actual laptop. He aslo found that others have had similar problems since around November. So he told me to switch to chrome, edge or some other browser for a while to see if the problem starts appearing there as well and if it does they would try sending it off for repairs.
