I have a decent lenovo thinkpad that had a dual M.2 slot, so I modded the thinkpad to have an oculink port on the bottom and built my own eGPU enclosure to pair with it

the egpu enclosure is built inside of some cheap plastic ammo container I grabbed off amazon, as well as an internalized 150w 12v power supply that powers the oculink dock and the rx 470. There is also a laptop charger inside, which allows me to run my laptop and eGPU off the exact same c14 connector (both the charger and psu run off a single C-14 receptacle)

The 120mm fan on the outside is connected to the 470 using a adapter, so I can control its speed in adrenalin software, fancontrol, etc

Ive attached some pictures of the final product as well as some pictures I took before the "final" version
If anyone has any suggestions on what else to add, let me know. I already plan to get a better graphics card when the market gets better, as well as potentially installing a type-C PD dock inside of the enclosure.

I can take or send more pictures if anyone would like to see more since im currently running against the site file size limit

i'm not too sure if this is the right forum to post this on but i'm hoping I got it right

First off, SICK. This is amazing
Secondly, how certain are you of the reliability of the power supply?
Finally, this is a LOT of effort to add a decade old GPU to your laptop, are you planning on upgrading?

Nice job! Curious though, I see you're pumping air in to that box with the big side fan but how is it meant to get out? Or are you just always going to use it with the top open?

the power supply wasnt too expensive and as for the quality, it seems to keep at 12v under a full load
and I do plan on upgrading in the future. because of how I set it up, any de-shrouded GPU with one of the mini pwm headers should work. I have an internal 6+2 and 6 pin, so i can use some decent cards if it really comes to it.

I havent added an exhaust, but I might in the future. As it stands, it doesnt overheat without an exhaust, but in the future I will probably add a small fan under the power supply or something to make sure that the air has some way out.

Wait so the modded oculink port is tying into the two m.2 ports you have? How are you doing this part? Can we see more pictures of the lenovo mod?

I've never heard of someone adding an oculink port. I wasn't aware that was something that could be done without extensive mobo knowledge and soldering skills

I added "feet" to the bottom. the side where the oculink is attached is over where a second ssd would normally be. there was basically a mesh vent that I cut off and used to route an m.2 to oculink adapter through.

I actually have the model available on printables, but its a bit outdated since ive done more iterations on the design

IMO it's more important to shove new air in, the old air will usually find a way out, and if not, OP can always just punch some speed holes into the other side of the case
