It might have some sort of build in fan control that doesn't turn the fan on until it reaches a certain usage.

Hey guys I got a cooler master silent gold pro 1000w and the PSU is working except the fan isn't spinning? Do I have to purchase a new one? If so any recommendations?

I think it may just be that the fan won't start spinning until it is under a certain amount of load. Many PSU's are like that. In fact I would imagine that is why silent is in the name of that PSU. If the PSU was dead the PC likely wouldn't boot.

Why purchase a new one. There should be like 5 years left of warranty. But yeah it might not spin when it's not loaded enough.

That would have been good to mention. But are you sure that the crashing is due to the PSU? Mine doesn't start spinning if I'm in a normal game, the first time I heard it spin was when I played bioshock infinite.

Well my CPU and GPU temps are fine and once my PSU crashes I cant boot it back up until it cool downs for like 15 mins

As far as I can tell, the Silent Pro Gold Series doesn't have a semi-fanless mode (I also can't see a physical switch for a fanless mode on the PSU itself either). The fan should be running. Couple that with the crashing and waiting 15minutes before being able to turn it on... I would recommend contacting Cooler Master and seeing if you can RMA your one. It seems to be defective.

Also just out of amusement, Cooler Master describes all the fancy pants patents they have for components in this unit, as well as the PWN connector for the fan. That fan must kick some serious ass. Also the box describes the unit as having a "Floopy" connector, which made me laugh way more than I should have.

EDIT: Still off topic: Actually it said Controller, not Connector. I believe it has something to do with the Active PFC, not the fans. Although I don't know anything about that.
