Recently I started to get these random crashes where the audio cuts and screen freezes, then I get a few more frames (one every other second or so) and then it black screens and reboots into an infinite loop of restarts. Only way to pull it out of the loop is to pull the plug from the wall or turn off the power supply wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. From there it will boot and state it couldn't fix the issue, I go into advanced and there's an option for boot into windows and it loads up as if nothing happened.

For some reason this mostly happens when playing games such as Apex Legends and Fortnite. All other games I play Valorant, Rocket League, SMITE 2, COD, GTA V, Poker Night at the Inventory etc. don't seem to cause it. Or at least it's very rare (maybe once ever).

What I have looked into and tested:

RAM - Replaced with another known working set and then even a new set.
Windows - Completely reinstalled.

Game SSD - Wiped and reformatted.

Event Viewer - I go under Windows Logs -> System and find: Error shutdown unexpected, critical system was rebooted without cleanly shutting down first, and error

Pre-attestation health checks confirm a critical component has failed, and the device is not expected to pass attestation.
Please see C:\WINDOWS\Logs\MeasuredBoot\0000000214-0000000000.json for detailed information on what checks were made.

Which I can't open.
Before the crash (since I started it earlier this afternoon) I get this warning over and over and over.

The description for Event ID 1 from source mtkwlex cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\NDMP1

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table

If anyone has any thoughts on how to fix this or steps to take I am all ears, everything I try to google takes me down an insane rabbit hole of running ram checks, disk checks, and random window+r scripts. I don't want to believe that my CPU, motherboard or power supply are dying but I really don't know what else to check. Thanks in advance. ;(

So "anti cheat" rootkit games?

Did you run memtest64 at all yet?

All the specs above.

Valorant has an insane anti cheat in it and I never seem to have an issue so I wouldn't think it would be anything to do with anti cheat but maybe it is? Just attempted Apex again and it crashed the system again so at least it's consistent...

I haven't run a memtest as I don't believe it to be a RAM issue anymore. Should I still do one?

You can also try turning off xmp to test if it's memory...

Like, I don't think it's a hw issue but you never know... it's more likely the anti cheats these games employ...

Also you can try updating your BIOS that seems to be a common fix.

This is my exact issue to a T if anyone has a solution here.

... It may be, but without a fix or more thorough description not sure if it helps...

In general these error messages aren't always as easy as "wifi module falied so it has to be the wifi module"... It could still be ram, anti cheat, or any other weird issue...

So you have two things that you can try out and are free, some other troubleshooting measures indeed may not be free as they require swapping parts lol.

Attempted again with xmp off and it still happened. Tried unplugged my WiFi 6 dongle and that didn't fix it. Haven't done a BIOS update but that might help, not sure how to do one of those though.

  • 2 weeks later...

Have you find the solution? I got the same problem as well when playing Apex Legends.

The last time I played Apex Legends was around 8 months ago and it was running fine. I installed it two days ago, now I have the same issue as you do. I did all the usual troubleshooting things like no undervolting, turn off xmp, driver updates and all those. But I have not done any BIOS update (downgrade in my case because im running the latest bios but its a beta version). I was using this BIOS version the last time I played Apex Legends but it was working fine.

Im using a MSI B550m mag mortar max wifi, BIOS ver: 7C94v1N1(Beta version).

I found my solution, downgraded my BIOS and then reinstall my Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) drivers according to provider (MSI bluetooth drivers for me).
 Now my Apex work.

Edit: My Apex Legend still crash, but only after playing for over 2 hours
